Job overview

Are you keen to join a motivated group of professionals in an acute surgical setting? A great opportunity has arisen on C31, the Surgical Admissions Ward, and Surgical Triage Unit (STU). We are a busy admissions ward and a fast paced unit specializing in emergency surgical assessment. We see Emergency General Surgical, Vascular, ENT and Maxillofacial patients through STU, ensuring they are triaged, assessed and a plan of care put in place.

There will be opportunity to develop your nursing and leadership skills, and a variety of clinical skills as well as enjoying a different challenge every day. You will be involved in the initial assessment process on STU, working alongside multiple different members of the emergency team which ranges from our experienced and knowledgeable CSWs, Nurse Practitioners from the different specialties (Emergency General Surgery, Vascular, ENT & Max Fax), our own nursing team and the surgeons and Consultants.

Successful candidates will receive preceptorship support and full orientation, in addition to the opportunity to develop valuable skills. You will have support from both management and our clinical educators for all your development needs.

You should have excellent interpersonal & communication skills, a passion for the delivery of high quality, compassionate care, and be able to demonstrate the ability to help change and motivate others. You will have the responsibility of caring for group of patients with complex needs along side the registered nurse for support and advice.

The candidate will be able to work flexibly in diverse clinical environments maintaining clinical experience. They will also have high level self-management skills, including time management, prioritisation and organisational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to build on the networks required for the role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient/client care through personal actions and continuous improvement. The post holder will support the Registered Nurse in ensuring the delivery of high quality patient/client care upholding dignity, delivered with kindness and compassion. Provide and monitor the nursing care for a designated group of patients/clients during a care episode. Actively contribute to an effective learning environment and support others in their learning. The post holder will promote a team nursing philosophy of care.

The successful candidate must have a valid NMC registration and fulfil all the essential criteria for this post.
