The haematology team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our friendly and forward thinking service. The successful candidate will have an interest in non-malignant haematology; red cells and general haematology are essential requirements but there is flexibility in the remainder of the job plan based on the specific interest of the successful candidate. GOLDEN HELLO! We are offering a Golden Hello incentive for this post where upon appointment you will receive 20% of the total first year salary. This would be paid at 50% on commencement of employment and 50% following 12 months of appointment.

NUH is one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK and is host to centres of excellence for clinical research, life sciences and technology. We play a vital role in education and training and as a teaching trust we have a strong relationship with our colleagues at the universities across the East Midlands.

Main duties of the job

Our team provide a specialist haemoglobinopathy service for patients in Nottinghamshire in collaboration with the East Midlands Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Network. We are supported by 2 paediatric haematologists, 4 specialist nurses and our local haemoglobinopathy coordinating centres for sickle cell and thalassaemia in Leicester and Birmingham respectively. The general haematology service covers a wide range of diagnoses including immune haematology and myeloproliferative diseases and also receives specialist nursing support. NUH became a regional centre for the management of TTP in November 2021, forming the East Midlands TTP Network as a joint collaboration with the University Hospitals of Leicester. Patients from across the region are referred into Nottingham for management and the post holder will provide on call cover for this service.

Working for our organisation

Queen’s Medical Centre Campus hosts the specialist Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis services which includes the Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia. There is a busy liaison service for haemostasis and thrombosis across both trusts and the H&T clinical teams supervise the nurse led anticoagulation and DVT follow up services. The team is supported by the Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis Reference Laboratory which is based on site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide senior support for the non-malignant clinical and laboratory services and attend clinics in red cells and general haematology. There is flexibility in the job plan to undertake further clinical work in a related area of non-malignant haematology, depending on the interest of the candidate. Inpatient attending is on an alternate month basis, shared with and supported by the consultant team. The role can incorporate under graduate and post graduate teaching, educational supervision, research, leadership roles within the specialty, depending on the interest of the individual.
