Job overview

The Cambridge Bowel Cancer Screening team are looking for an experienced Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) to join the team as Lead SSP. You will have completed the Bowel Cancer Specialist Screening Practitioner course (Level 6 or 7) and be looking for the next step in your BCSP career and ready to lead a team of SSPs.

The BCSP service is currently open 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday, 8-6) in order to deliver the needs of an expanding service for age extension and lynch screening service.

As Lead SSP you will be responsible for providing nursing leadership within the bowel cancer screening service in accordance with the national and local screening specification. Working alongside the BCSP programme manager and lead clinician to ensure the patients within the programme are provided with a safe and high quality service.

You will be a role model for the team with excellent communication and decision making skills. You will be able to inspire the team to take on new challenges and changes within the service.

Main duties of the job

Managing the SSP team on a day to day basis to deliver the BCSP service by providing support and expert knowledge to the team.

Be responsible for the care delivery to meet the patient needs throughout the BCSP patient pathway.

Working with the BSCP programme manager on demand and capacity to ensure that all key performance indictors and quality standards are met.

Ensure required audits are undertaken and report on these as required.

Ensure collaborative working with other department including endoscopy, histopathology, radiology, screening committee, colorectal team, and GP practices among others.

Develop and review protocols and guidelines in line with trust and national guidance.

Participate in regional BCSP activities.

Support the development of Health promotion opportunities within the service.
