Job description

HR Officer

Leek Wootton

Full Time 37 hours

We are seeking an experienced HR practitioner to support us in delivering an excellent HR service to our Force. You will advise on employment and equality legislation, and HR and Diversity policies and procedures which is why we ask for you to hold an Advanced Level Diploma in HR Management.

If you haven’t got experience in Policing, you will quickly obtain proficiency in Police Regulations and Determinations and Police Staff Terms and Conditions of Service.

You must be a great communicator, proficient in using IT packages particularly the Microsoft Suite, and able to evidence your success in building good working relationships.

Expanding on the detail within the role profile:

  • You will be responsible for supporting designated business areas within the organisation, providing sound HR advice and management information.
  • Providing coaching and support to managers in the effective management of Staff and Officer performance, attendance and conduct.
  • To draft, review and update HR policies, procedures and guidance ensuring these are delivered effectively and in a timely manner.

Main Responsibilities:

Advise managers on all matters relating to the management of their staff, including employment and equality legislation, Police Regulations and Determinations, Police Staff terms and conditions of service, and HR and Diversity policies and procedures.


Coach and support managers in the effective management of staff performance, attendance and conduct.


Work collaboratively with the appropriate HR Service Centre staff to ensure changes to post and conditions of service etc are dealt with promptly.


Work collaboratively with other HR colleagues to ensure the delivery of innovative, timely and cost effective HR policies, procedures and practices which support the achievement of organisational aims and objectives.


Ensure managers and supervisors have access to timely and accurate management information in relation to their business areas (e.g. sickness absence, workforce structure and composition).


Support the HR Business Partner in the implementation of organisational change, including individual consultation and application of relevant policies and procedures


To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required. This will include deployment as necessary to meet business needs and may include opportunities to be rotated for personal development


Knowledge

Essential Criteria:

Level 5 or equivalent in HR Management

Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Sound knowledge of employment and equality legislation, terms and conditions of employment.

Desirable:

Level 7 or equivalent in HR Management

Experience

Experience of providing generalist HR advice to line managers within a complex organisation, including attendance and performance management, disciplinary and grievances, organisational change and employee relations.

Key Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including a proven ability to research and prepare management reports.

Excellent IT skills, including the proven ability to interpret and extrapolate management information from a variety of sources.

Proven ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation.

Special Conditions:

Travel to other locations in Warwickshire as required.
