This role is pivotal in providing administration of and data insight to: influence the packaging sustainability strategy, mitigate business risk by ensuring packaging legislative compliance and support across the packaging team functions, including: technical, innovation, artwork and origination, quality control and incident management.
You'll play a key role in supporting the delivery of the packaging sustainability strategy by helping to test, trial and implement new materials and influencing ‘right first time’ packaging for new launches, with a focus on sustainability. Support packaging technical projects and own the feedback mechanism for new launches, liaising with project and site teams. You will facilitate reprographics briefings with relevant internal stakeholders and suppliers and ensure documentation is in place and communicated to all parties.
Support the packaging quality systems and processes in place to identify quality gaps and implement any improvements with our supply base.
You'll provide thorough review and insight to support final sign off, ensuring that packaging designs meet Warburtons’ prescribed standards and be heavily involved in supporting the artwork and origination process from approved visuals.
Lead on the gathering and reporting of data, relating to:
- Legal packaging data reporting obligations (UK PPT, EPR, PRNs etc).
- Material usages; to allow for consistent and accurate business data reporting for volume and cost projections.
- Highlight trends based upon data analysis to identify key focus areas, e.g. plastic use as part of the Packaging Sustainability Strategy.
Co-ordinate and accurately document:
- Packaging Specifications
- Trial material requests and deliveries for every revision for all projects.
- All mould free shelf-life tests for new products or changes to substrates, ensuring liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- To provide technical support to the department and bakeries as required, supporting the Packaging team to deliver the technical requirements of the Department when necessary.
- Analyse findings and gather research to inspire packaging innovation.
- Utilising data insights, create benefit to the business through recommendations of potential costs savings and sustainability improvements; of our packaging formats and materials, through recommendations to and participation in all internal packaging innovation reviews.
- Support with horizon scanning, packaging innovation projects, attend trade shows and exhibitions and liaise with our supply base to research and review new packaging formats and materials.
- Experience gained within a packaging role, ideally FMCG.
- IOM3 Packaging Technology Certificate or Diploma (desired but not essential).
- Industry Knowledge: experience of packaging materials, packaging production, artwork and design, food production processes and product requirements, Quality requirements, H&S/food safety systems and legislation knowledge; knowledge of FCM regulations and requirements.
- Commercial Awareness: Can demonstrate a good understanding of the customer and their requirements / constraints.
- Excellent data reporting and analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills: Influential and persuasive.
- Excellent relationship builder- establishing credibility with both internal and external contacts at all levels.
- IT knowledge – able to use widespread functions within Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams etc
