Job Summary
Our donors are very special people and it is your job to make sure they feel safe, special and well cared for, creating an experience that they will want to return to time and time again. Working in a fast moving and variable environment this essential role in the collection of blood and blood products will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives. This post will provide you with the opportunity work autonomously using your valuable professional knowledge. You will also develop your leadership skills to successfully manage and improve our services.
You will undertake an extensive induction and training programme, with ongoing assessment, and receive continuous development, including academic opportunities to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions
Main duties of the job
You will lead and motivate a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisor(s) to provide and deliver a high standard of personal care. You will use your clinical judgement to make decisions about donor suitability to meet our regulatory and governance requirements.
- Taking clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of our donors
- Being accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session
- Taking responsibility for ensuring an excellent donor experience
- Maintaining the competency and skills of your team and yourself
- Being able to adapt communication styles for difficult conversations
- Maintaining your professional development to help us deliver improvements to our practice
You will be required to work variable hours in order to lead at different blood collection sessions, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Night shifts are not required in this role.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and understand the principles of best practice to deliver high quality care
- Have experience of supporting the professional development of others
- Have an understanding of clinical audit and research
- Have experience of supporting improvements and change in practice
- Have an awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management
- Have experience of working with Information Technology such as hand-held devices and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Qualifications and Training
- Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse – Adult
- Have a valid driving licence and access to a car (or lease car if applicable)
- Evidence of commitment to continued learning and application in practice.
