Why this job matters
The Corporate Strategy and Development team has a critical role to play as we continue to shape and deliver BT’s long-term strategy, corporate development and strengthen the alignment of our units around a single strategy. In a rapidly changing environment, it is critical that we take a more integrated approach to how we drive value out of our assets and transform our business. This integrated strategy will bring together commercial and business strategies and support long term growth and profitability.
This role will focus on answering a wide range of big strategic questions to design the group’s long-term strategy as well as assessing investment opportunities such as mergers and acquisitions. The projects you will work on will need to provide an objective and independent view whilst engaging a multi-functional working team of experts across the business. You will be expected to develop clear, innovative recommendations and solid business cases for decision and implementation to ensure BT Group continues to be a profitable, innovative, customer-focused organisation.
You will be working in a fun, agile and fast-paced environment and you will be at the centre of key decision making, working directly with BT’s senior executives with enterprise-wide accountability.
What you’ll be doing
  • Contributing to designing the group’s strategy and articulating the key priorities for the group
  • Contributing to resolve key strategic questions including potential partnership and M&A opportunities end to end on the workstream level.
Key tasks include:
o breaking down a key question and framing the approach to investigate
o identifying strategic options to resolve the issue
o assessing the issue through in-depth quantitative and qualitative analyses
o developing recommendations and associated investment / business cases
  • Recommending solutions to some of the most material strategic questions facing BT Group
  • Defining and executing M&A opportunities
  • Developing new business cases across BT Group in collaboration with the business units to validate assumptions, while understanding where there will be tension and drive buy-in and collaboration with relevant business units
  • Facilitating resolution development of strategic questions and ensuring engagement and ownership from key stakeholders on a working level

The skills you’ll need
Strategic thinking
  • Analytical and comfortable working with data sets, basic financial modelling or insights to drive recommendations and deliver results, with a challenging and fact-based approach
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to take the initiative to make change happen
  • High-level understanding of the strategy consulting approach, including an understanding of unit economics and profitability
Communication
  • Experience delivering high quality output in a professional environment
  • Able to create inspiring and simple messages, considering different perspectives
  • Able to synthesise issues and get to the “so what?”
  • Strong presentation skills, capable of articulating complex ideas with authority and making the case for change
People and process
  • Able to engage appropriately with a large number of fragmented stakeholders with an awareness of the different viewpoints around the business
  • Able to independently build successful relationships with working teams from different business units across BT
  • Strong team player with the ability to perform under pressure
  • Good time management skills and ability to structure your workload to deliver to deadlines

Relevant industry experience is a plus but not required i.e. experience in TMT, strategy consulting or a corporate strategy function
