Job Description
The Everyday Banking Platform Technology Lead is responsible for managing technology teams across Banking, Savings, and Card Services products. They will be responsible for providing a market leading customer experience via the servicing of Debit and Credit cards via multiple channels. These teams work across a broad range of technical disciplines and systems including full stack web development, various database platforms and mainframe processing platforms. In general, the technicians work within feature teams to provide skills in the areas of software engineering, devops and run/support.
The purpose of this role is to, together with the Business Platform Lead; assume joint accountability for the platform’s ownership, leadership, development, end-to-end capability and costs, including technology risk and resilience. Joint accountability also includes business and technology
Run/Change objectives and risks along with a shared responsibility for investment as part of the P&L,
with culture and behaviour the critical unlock for joint accountability to succeed.
Key accountabilities
- Accountable for a team of Technical Platform Leads.
- Set the vision, a clear mandate and strategic roadmap for the Platform technology activities to demonstrate value and to nurture quality of technical delivery.
- Advises the portfolio of investment to achieve transformation of services and propositions in alignment with Group technology strategy.
- Being responsible for the successful delivery and maintenance of the core technology agenda, providing strategic direction and oversight of Customer Journeys.
- Drives resilience, simplification, modernisation and use of new technologies to build agility through the architecture.
- Works closely with the Business Platform lead to prioritise system improvements alongside the delivery of product features, driving high quality change delivery.
- Understands Systems Thinking and Service Design to mitigate reactive solutions that leads to further technical debt.
- Is responsible for third party and internal IT providers including management of significant investment and BAU budgets
- Builds and embeds a strong culture that lives the Group values. Is a role model and leads using Group behaviours.
- Attracts, develops and retains engineering talent actively.
- Drives a culture of learning and continuous improvement motivated by Engineering excellence and plays a lead role in supporting Engineering Chapters, guilds and community activities.
Experience
- Outstanding leadership skills with a passion for team development; allowing colleagues to develop in different/new technologies and mature in ways of working, resulting in a successful team.
- Extensive experience and technical engineering knowledge and implementation of a broad range of platforms, including cloud.
- A shown awareness of the use of flow metrics to reduce teams work in progress and improvement time to market.
- Are technology agnostic and willing to adapt their approach in pursuit of the best solution; enables via an excellent knowledge and understanding of multiple engineering & software design solutions.
- Confirmed track record of engaging and influencing multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure key business decisions and priorities are progressed.
- Understanding of the regulatory environment in which we operate in order to identify, supervise and mitigate commercial risks
- Detailed knowledge of the UK personal financial services market, technology landscape, ideally in the Everyday Banking domain
