If you have a passion and interest for developing your skills in creating compelling visual content and possess excellent communication skills, we would love to hear from you. This placement will give you the opportunity to use and develop your existing skills, build a portfolio of new material and gain valuable work experience and skills. Whilst the post is not remunerated and is purely voluntary we will offer support for local travel and up to £5 a day subsistence for the days you are on campus. In developing your skills and learning more about higher education and Water, Energy and the Environment in an academic and research context, you will aid a programme which aims to develop a range of new material. In turn this will enable you to showcase and enhance your design, communication and digital skills, engaging with staff across the School of Water, Energy and the Environment. We are passionate about creating sustainable solutions for people and the planet.
About the Placement
Collaborating and learning from other individuals on placements and staff within the School, the placement may be aligned to one or more of the following projects in the School:
- Design and deliver a short animation showcasing a PhD research project’s method, findings and implications
- Undertake a study to identify impactful messaging for potential MSc and PhD students
- Design a ‘Sustainability Summer School’ programme
- Design a new commercial reporting template
- Undertake a social media campaign using content provided
- Design and generate infographics about research and teaching activities
This placement will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and will position you well for future opportunities in sustainability. You will receive guidance and support from staff at the University to support your development, gaining an understanding of the sector, and experience of the workplace.
About You
You will be an undergraduate student or recent graduate with an interest in STEM and sustainability. To ensure the placement is as valuable as possible and recognising some of the projects the placement aligns to, you will have an understanding of different marketing techniques and the effective use of social media. You will have a good working knowledge of MS Office and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Placement arrangements
Collaborating and connecting are integral to so much of what we do and so are crucial to maximise the value of the placement. Hours will be agreed with you on a flexible basis to ensure they suit your needs and fit with our capacity, and you will be invited to be on campus 3 to 4 days per week, as such, we will gladly cover travel expenses for these days.
