Department

The Sexual Violence Response and Prevention Manager will be based within the Student Life and Wellbeing team, interacting with colleagues from across the institution, and working in partnership with our student unions and external providers such as Police and Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs).

The Student Life and Wellbeing team works to enhance all aspects of student life and experience at the University of York, delivering a range of proactive and responsive services to students and staff. The Conduct and Respect team within this is focussed on the prevention of harassment, sexual violence and other forms of misconduct, promoting a culture of respect across the University so that students feel safe to be themselves.

Role

As the Sexual Violence Response and Prevention Manager, you will lead on intervention and culture change work, including training for staff and students, pro-active campaigns and the development of resources. You will provide line management and support for the Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLOs) and will represent the SVLOs on various internal and external groups, including the University’s Sexual Violence Steering Group, as well as holding an SVLO caseload and providing support to the Head of Conduct and Respect.

  • Provide line management and support for the SVLO team.
  • Hold an SVLO caseload, providing specialist one-to-one emotional and practical support for students who have experienced Sexual Violence.
  • Represent the SVLOs on various internal and external groups, including the University’s Sexual Violence Steering Group.
  • Lead on intervention and culture change work, including training, resources, campaigns and events.
  • Assist the Head of Conduct and Respect, including preparing data reports, identifying and monitoring trends, and contributing to the Sexual Violence action plan.
  • Advise Disciplinary Panels, where appropriate.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Experience of providing support to individuals who have suffered Gender Based Violence.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • High levels of personal resilience and the ability to work effectively in a crisis situation.
  • A degree or relevant professional qualification, for example, an Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) or Sexual Violence Liaison Officer (SVLO) accreditation.
  • Ability to dynamically prioritise a varied and high-risk workload.
