Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Psychology, Behavioral Health, or a closely related field Minimum of (3) years’ experience providing counselling and support to birth-five year old children with social-emotional problems, and their families Current State of Florida license in counselling (LMHC), social work (LCSW), or closely related field All Department of Children and Families certifications required for employment in childcare facilities Florida Childcare Director’s Credential preferred, or willingness to obtain Preferred Qualifications: Experience counselling and supporting the social-emotional needs of very young children and their families Experience working with and training adults to support the social-emotional needs of very young children and their families Knowledge and understanding of Head Start Program Performance Standards Demonstrated understanding of infant and early childhood social-emotional health Experience working with children in trauma and knowledge of trauma informed care Experience implementing Second Steps/Conscious Discipline techniques in early childhood settings Knowledge or experience in organization and operations of educational social services Knowledge of supports to children with atypical behaviors, substance abused newborns and/or exposure to trauma as well as disability services Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and policies related to early childhood programming Must be able to communicate effectively and accurately in written and verbal form Must have attention to detail and ability to maintain program statistics and effectively manage time to balance program needs Diversity management with sensitivity to the cultural differences within the agency, program, and community Second language fluency (speaking, reading, writing) preferred (languages spoken within the program including Spanish, Creole) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate. Performance Responsabilities: 1. Leads planning and ongoing monitoring of mental health services as a member of the program’s leadership team. 2. Creates, implements and monitors a system of social-emotional health and support to classroom staff. 3. Completes individual student observations, creates reports and shares results. 4. Provides one-on-one and group counselling sessions as indicated. 5. Meets with teachers, families and other team members to create, implement and monitor individual services. 6. Provides individual support and role modeling to children and teachers by spending time in a variety of educational settings and helping them directly in reaching specific goals. 7. Communicates with teachers and families to share resources and make referrals that support mental well-being. 8. Plans and facilitates staff and parent training related to early childhood social-emotional health, trauma-informed programming, and parenting. 9. Completes student classroom observations and provides feedback and strategies to staff. 10. Maintains records and provides reports related to children’s progress, services provided, and other data. 11. Collaborates with Disabilities and Behavior Specialists as well as outside agencies, for referral and consultation services. 12. Participates in ongoing professional and personal development which specifically targets early childhood mental health topics, classroom support and trauma-informed services. 13. Participates in transition planning and activities. 14. Assists in grant writing as needed. 15. Travels throughout the Charlotte County service area. 16. Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
