Job Purpose
This role provides a great opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of technical IT projects and hence support the realisation of the Digital Strategy through its stabilise, optimise and transform stages.
As an experienced Project Manager with a passion for enabling business transformation by harnessing new technologies, you will engage with stakeholders at all levels across the University, acting in a change management capacity and advocating best practice in project management methodologies, applying appropriate waterfall, agile or hybrid approaches as required.
This role sits in the recently formed Digital Programme and Innovation Office (DPIO) within the wider Digital Services Directorate.
Main Duties
1. Lead and be accountable for successful management of one or more projects which may be related to organisational development and/or technology implementation;
2. Apply PRINCE2 structured project management methods to the delivery of formal, externally funded projects;
3. Prepare and maintain realistic project plans, tracking all project activities against plans, and providing regular and accurate progress reports to senior management, project boards, and customers as appropriate;
4. Take responsibility for producing and maintaining detailed documentation of assigned projects, in consultation with all relevant stakeholders and the Project Boards, including producing business needs analysis, ROIs, business cases, and assessment of alternative options;
5. Estimate costs, timescales and resources required for successful delivery of projects and support of the ongoing service thereafter;
6. Identify, assess and manage risks to the success of projects, including taking corrective actions for problems and/or escalating to Project Boards as required;
7. Monitor costs, timescales and resources utilised, taking appropriate action where these deviate from agreed tolerances;
8. Manage the financial resources allocated to projects, ensuring all purchasing and financial matters are carried out to University Regulations and local guidelines and procedures;
9. Provide effective leadership to project teams, ensuring team members are aware of their roles and motivating staff as appropriate, inputting into the staff development and appraisal process for staff involved in teams;
10. Effectively communicate with all stakeholders to ensure they are kept informed of project progress and to manage expectations, using presentations, written reports, social media and published web sites;
11. Manage tendering and selection processes in consultation with the Procurement team, including advising on the production of contracts with suppliers of goods or services;
12. Manage change in environment, procedures and technology which effect stakeholders;
13. Develop and maintains such record keeping systems as are necessary to track project progress against objectives;
14. Advise on project management standards, contributing to the development of Project Management methodologies and the overall Digital Programme and Innovation Office (DPIO) strategy;
15. Lead by example on project management best practice and mentor other team members;
16. Creatively combine formal and informal communication channels with stakeholders in order to achieve results;
17. Represent Digital Services internally and externally as may be required;
18. Any other duties as may reasonably be required.
