BBC Audio has approximately 650 editorial and technical staff who create and deliver more than 100 hours of original audio every day. Our podcasts and radio programmes are heard around the world. We work with some of the biggest names in music, entertainment and journalism. Our sound engineers bring the greatest festivals and sporting events to life. This is just a selection of the 22,500 programmes we work on every year.
The Outlook production team is part of Factual Production in London, which makes daily programmes such as Woman’s Hour and weekly programmes including In Our Time, Desert Island Discs, and The Media Show for Radio 4 and Free Thinking on Radio 3.
Outlook’s amazing human stories reach a global audience of millions via BBC World Service radio, through our podcast — Lives Less Ordinary — and as articles on the BBC News website. The Outlook production team works alongside the makers of The Fifth Floor, The Conversation, The Forum and World Questions which are also Factual productions for World Service English.
Main Responsibilities
Whether it’s the daily World Service programme Outlook, the podcast Lives Less Ordinary or Life Changing on Radio 4 and Sounds, our production team within BBC Audio Factual specialises in telling extraordinary personal stories for the digital age.
This opportunity is for a Content Producer — a creative journalist with the skills and passion to find amazing and resonant true stories from anywhere in the world and turn them into the most clickable and shareable content around. The role is focused on producing long-form audio content and short-form video.
Are you the right candidate?
- You will know how to find original off-diary first-person stories with emotional content and how to make them compelling listening for podcast and radio
- You will have a track record of creative and journalistic storytelling with interviewees from all over the world
- You will have experience of long-form audio storytelling
- You will have expertise in a range of audio production techniques including feature making
- You will have the editorial judgement and confidence to take responsibility for the output
- You will be organised, able to prioritise your workload, and work to deadlines.
- You will love podcasts and have an appreciation of how Outlook’s content fits in the international podcasting landscape
- The successful candidate will be expected to have an understanding of World Service content and its digital audiences and ideas about how to make an impact on them — as well as the skills to make short videos suitable for social media platforms.
- You should be well-informed about world affairs and be willing to travel
