This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver multi professional training to meet the Local and National requirements of our Midwifery and Obstetric Teams. Enabling safe quality care to all maternity service users and their families, and ensuring staff maintain confidence and competence in midwifery skills.
Support the service in ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based care for mothers and babies, within available resources.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of highly specialist educational and development strategy and programmes for Maternity services.
The post holder will be responsible for developing innovative approaches to teaching, research and service provision, which allows us to be at the forefront of developments in patient care.
- Support the service in ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based care for mothers and babies, within available resources.

- Support the development and delivery of learning for all staff contributing to maternity care as specified in the Maternity Training Needs Analysis trust document.
- Participate, facilitate and monitor the training and individualised induction programme for preceptorship for new midwifery staff.
- Influence and contribute to the development of the education strategy within the unit.
- Develop, co-ordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of skills and drills training in relation to response in emergency situations and support the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective responses.
- Promote and develop appropriate training to promote effective midwifery care and minimise unnecessary intervention.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
