It's an exciting time to be part of our team with all of our award-winning Continuing Dramas that brings audiences together week after week. From EastEnders, Doctors and Casualty to River City and Pobol y Cwm, our programmes remain a constant source of gripping entertainment, featuring cliff-hanger storylines and much-loved characters with whom our viewers have grown up.

Multi award-winning drama series about the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department, charting the ups and downs in their personal and professional lives whilst tackling many controversial and taboo issues. Through great writing and visual flair the show balances gritty realism with high drama to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, week in week out.

The Casualty Editorial Team are at the heart of the drama offscreen! They work extremely hard in a busy environment to help bring the scripts to life. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop within an experienced Drama Editorial Office.

Main Responsibilities

You’ll report to Sarah Beeson, the Script Producer.

Your duties will include:

To keep a close eye on and check all drafts and scripts for continuity ensuring the consistent treatment of established characters and within the story line and episodes, whilst raising any inconsistencies or inaccuracies with the Script Editors and Writers, suggesting solutions.

You would be required to undertake all necessary administrative tasks including where required the compilation and distribution of an accurate Transmission synopsis of each episode and prepare billings for listings magazines, whilst assisting the Script Editors in ensuring that all negative checks (e.g. brand names) are completed and that all reasonable action has been taken to avoid copyright infringement, libel and defamation.

Your role would require you to script edit a shadow script and a number of episodes within the series, along with providing additional research and script editing when required.

You would be required to ensure that you represent the interests of the Writer to the production team whilst ensuring the author consents to all major script changes and alterations and that they are sufficiently aware of the financial implications of editorial decisions.

Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Proven practical experience of working in an editorial context on a television drama series
  • Experience of working directly with Drama Script Writers
  • A passion for generating storylines and the ability to find creative solutions
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and in pressurised situations
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of script reading and writing script reports with an ability to demonstrate sound editorial judgement and sensitivity, both verbally and on paper
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining office and administration systems
  • Experience of handling confidential and/or controversial information with tact and sensitivity.
  • An established knowledge of and enthusiasm for drama, particularly Casualty
