Based at our depot in Richmond, the role will allow you to work in the northern area of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales including Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale.
Having responsibility for effectively and continuously line managing a variety of frontline teams, primarily in street cleansing and waste collection, you will ensure that these teams deliver critical services for the Council and are relied upon by residents and businesses throughout the County.
You will play a crucial role in the deployment and organisation of resources on a daily basis responding to issues across their teams, in real time to minimise the impact on service delivery, including assisting operational management with the safe and compliant deployment of Operator Licence Goods vehicles.
Typical working days and hours currently vary between different areas of the new council, but you need to be prepared to start early. Some weekend and bank holiday working may be required.
Roles and Responsibilities
- To ensure the work allocated to the Waste and Street Scene Teams is completed to a high standard
- To co-ordinate mandatory training around service priorities, devising and implementing training schedules with colleagues
- To be responsible for the monitoring of the performance of services and making recommendations to management, regarding the increased efficiency of those services
- Provide leadership and direction to teams and agency staff at all times on legal requirements
- To motivate individuals and teams ensuring best practice is deployed across the waste management service area through regular dialogue and formal appraisals as individuals and teams
- To effectively manage the day to day performance of team members including identifying and addressing conduct, performance and absence matters, including through formal HR processes where appropriate
