We are seeking an enthusiastic, part-time Finance Coordinator & Bookkeeper to help coordinate our daily financial administrative needs. This is a complex and varied role handling the Club’s financial administration and bookkeeping. The role would suit an organised and motivated individual who is able to turn their hand to any financial task for the Club. The role requires some self-management and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

About the Helford River Sailing Club (HRSC)
Founded in 1948 and located on the south bank of the Helford River, the Club provides a welcoming atmosphere for members, visiting yachts, families and guests. Overlooking some of the best sailing waters in England with extensive shore facilities, activities and social calendar, the Club also has a strong focus on junior sailing and encouraging children to love sailing and the water. Run by an elected committee, the role of Finance Coordinator & Bookkeeper is a valued and integral part of the running of the Club. HRSC is an accredited RYA training centre.
Job Description
Reporting to the Honorary Treasurer, the Main Purpose of the Job is to assist with the smooth running of all financial aspects of the Helford River Sailing Club.
You will need to use the Club bookkeeping software system and ensure all financial records are kept current and maintained.
Regular liaison will be required with our Honorary Treasurer and our Club Administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role is varied and covers the following the areas:
- Liaise with our Office Administrator on matters of membership payments where necessary
- Record Club finances and transactions using Quickbooks software and the EPOS till system
- Check and enter the daily and weekly bar and restaurant takings and reconcile to the bank
- Prepare PAYE and staff wages
- Manage VAT and Inland Revenue returns as required
- Work with the Honorary Treasurer in the preparation and updating of management reports, budgets and forecasts
- Work with the Club accountants in preparation of end of year reports
- Carry out bank reconciliations
- Work with the Club on-line banking system
- Check invoices, credit notes, statements where necessary to fulfil the role
- Prepare any financial documentation required for stocktakes
- Administer direct debits
- Provide assistance to the Office Administrator with accounts due if required
- Assist the Committee in the matters relating to banking and drawing cash and balancing floats if required (this may require designated trips to Lloyds in Falmouth)
- Prepare cheques as required
- Carry out other activities for time to time as required
Personal Specification
Essential skills:
- Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision
- Excellent problem solver who pays attention to detail
- Strong, clear communication skills both over the phone and via email
- Experience using Direct Debit systems
- Experienced in bookkeeping and the use of Quickbooks or similar systems
- Proficient with EPOS till systems
- AAT qualified
- Skilled with PAYE, VAT and HMRC
- Skilled and experienced in Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook, Access and other Microsoft Office apps and email systems
Desirable skills:
- Experience working with a wider team/suppliers
- Experience working with accountants
