Job Introduction
BBC Motion Gallery licenses BBC television and radio content into the global market as well as within the BBC Group (internal licensing).
The Licensing and Operations will be primarily responsible for providing account management to internal BBC clients, helping them to source and clear BBC archive and ensuring all usage is recorded, licensed and invoiced.
With guidance and support from the Head of Content and Operations, the Licensing and Operations Executive will manage relationships with internal clients, ensuring they can access and select content, rights checks are completed, licenses are issued and invoices raised.
The Licensing and Operations Executive will also have partial responsibilities for financial operations, including processing supplier invoices and the Getty Statement.
Main Responsibilities
The role is meant for an Archive Sales or process specialist who has an appreciation of the complexities of the rights and clearances and is able to help clients navigate through this process. The following are essential requirements of the role:
- To offer first class account management to clients, ensuring their project requirements are understood and delivered upon.
- To accurately analyse and interpret complex rights information from production paperwork and what has been provided by Commercial Rights Department and Natural History Unit to ensure the license does not breach contracts between stakeholders.
- To secure permissions from senior BBC and BBC Studios staff to ensure compliance with strict BBC policies and editorial guidelines and to protect the BBC brand.
- To have an in-depth understanding of BBC editorial guidelines and policies, and ensure these are met in relation to the sale of clip content to avoid any instances of being in breach of said guidelines.
- To balance risk and be mindful of repercussions in regard to reuse of material where rights information may be unclear or unavailable to ensure that any licenses offered do not damage the business.
- Raise invoices, keep accurate financial records, pass payment and invoicing instructions to royalties. Maintain a record of expenditure to ensure that third parties are paid the required income and that income flows back to the Public Service in timely fashion.
- Develop a strong working relationship with existing and prospective clients and internal teams to maintain and grow sales opportunities.

- An accomplished archive sales professional with excellent commercial acumen with strong and demonstrable knowledge of the rights and clearance process.
- Proven negotiation skills.
- Extremely well organised with an ability to follow and develop processes.
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work with colleagues at a more senior level.
- Ability to build strong relationships with existing and potential clients.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritise during busy periods.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.
