We've just raised a round of venture funding (YC (https://www.ycombinator.com/), Abstraction (https://abstraction.vc/), Essence (https://www.essencevc.fund/), A Capital (https://acapital.com/)) and as we're quickly growing, we're looking for an Operations Manager to join this ambitious endeavor, just as we're getting started. As an operations manager, you will be in charge of all things logistical but non-technical within the company. This includes a very broad range of topics so mastery of all topics since day one is not required, but quick learning on the job will be essential. If you are offered the role, earliest start date is the 1st of May.
As the first point of contact for the CEO on all logistical matters, you are expected to get familiar and stay up to date with all our logistical service providers. Specifically, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the following aspects of the business:
A- Legal Issues: This involves meeting with our legal counsel in all countries in which we're operating, and reporting on discussions while staying up to date with the latest issues regarding the company's global presence, its equity allocation, its various employment modalities, and more.
Examples of questions that may be treated include: When is the right time to create a subsidiary in a given country and how many people should we hire there ? Where should our equity holders be resident predominantly ? Should we use an Employer of Record (EOR) ? How can we provide long-term employment potential for all our globally-based subcontractors ? Should we open a physical office at some point, if so, where and how ? These are some examples of the questions you will be deeply involved in as part of the role.
B- HR: You will also be responsible for managing and overseeing our various HR needs in the UK (and potentially other countries as we expand), including: Keeping up-to-date with UK payroll (Pento (https://www.pento.io/)), handling employee benefits such as health insurance, pensions etc., ensuring all of our employment contracts stay fully up to date and IP-secure by regularly liaising with our legal counsel, ensuring all our employee and advisor options are managed correctly in Carta (https://carta.com/), managing all Employer or Record (EOR) hires we make globally and deciding which EOR service to use (Deel (https://www.deel.com/), Omnipresent (https://www.omnipresent.com/), Remote (https://remote.com/), Pilot (https://pilot.co/), Rippling (https://www.rippling.com/) etc..), helping to correctly calibrate employee options and salaries. and many more important topics.
C- Accounting and Finances: Additionally, you will be supervising our accounting and financial situation by frequently liaising with our US and UK accounting firms to make sure our bookkeeping and statements filings are properly carried out. This also involves working with our accounting software (Pandle (https://www.pandle.com/)) which our UK accountants use, providing input on the treatment of tax returns, aiding in decisions on which accounting and CFO provider to use (InDinero (https://www.indinero.com/), Pilot (https://pilot.com/) etc.). You will also be applying for research grants in both the UK and the US, filing for R&D tax credits in both the UK and US, deciding which R&D supporting service to use (EmpowerRD (https://www.empowerrd.com/), SeedLegals (https://seedlegals.com/) etc.), and so on.
Finally, you are expected to manage our current administrative team, which is currently responsible for all job opportunity postings and outreach, application tracking, team onboarding etc.
- Has experience dealing with most of the above-mentioned matters within the last 2 years, in a fast growing, fully global, remote-first startup which has reached or gone beyond series A stage.

High social and emotional intelligence, good at building strong relationships with many different people at different levels and in different organisations.

Ability to learn very quickly on the job, proactively and swiftly self-educates when placed into unfamiliar territory.
The salary will be $45k - $60k with equity between 0.5-1.5% depending on experience.
