Our Opportunity
Ground Transportation Systems (GTS) are currently in an exciting period of change as we transition ownership from Thales to Hitachi Rail. With this change comes lots of opportunity and a chance to help shape the future of the UK rail industry.
We are currently looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join the PMO. The role will undertake project management activities in support of the Connect Project Management Team for a specific project (or number of projects), to ensure the successful delivery of the project(s). The Assistant PM reports directly to the Senior Project Manager to ensure successful delivery of the project(s).
This is a great opportunity to transition from a Design or Project engineering environment into the domain of Project Management.
This role can see you work from any one of our UK sites depending on the needs of the project, however you can expect to be mainly based in our London Waterloo hub, with a portion of your role able to be performed remotely.
This role will transition to Hitachi Rail as part of the transfer of ownership of GTS.
Key Requirements:
The key purpose of this role is to support the Senior Project Manager in the following activities:

Deliver the key results and performance metrics for the projects, including order intake, sales, gross margin and cash

Creation of the initial Project Plan during the bid phase through requirement capture, work definition, estimating and scheduling that will include all Milestones, activities and resources

Drive Quality, Cost & Delivery performance through collaboration

Manage all project stakeholders; ensuring strong communications are established and maintained
-
Ensure that members of the project team are actively managing Risk and Opportunities
-
Ensure data integrity of all project information including financials and schedule. Use the Oracle and Primavera toolset to hold all financial, schedule and resource information
What we’re looking for:
Technical skills
-
Exposure to the concept of Work Package management
-
Experience of generic processes and techniques used to schedule project activities (for example, WBS, OBS, milestones, dependencies , EVM)
-
Experience of the Project Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management)
-
Exposure to the project life cycle for complex projects through delivery of Development, Implementation, Closure and Support activity
-
Experience in a technical environment within the rail industry
Human Skills
-
Able to work in a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organisation
-
stakeholder management and negotiation with the ability to deal with customers, partners, suppliers and other parts of the business

Build strong relationships

Written presentation and report writing

Analytical skills aligned with the need to carry out detailed investigation of cost variance(s) and publishing of financial information directly into Company financial reports
Qualifications:

Educated in a discipline that is compatible with the requirements of Project Management

Level D Professional accreditation with the Association for Project Management (or equivalent level of professional accreditation)
