Salary: £28,371 to £31,099 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Location: Jobs Depot, Sayers Common
As a Highway Inspector you will support the delivery of a safe highway network. You will regularly inspect and repair the highways and enforce highway legislation.
The focus of this role is undertaking inspections of the county’s carriageways and footways.
You will be required to travel around the county independently from Jobs Depot, Sayers Common. You will use your own initiative when carrying out duties and these will include physical activities such as undertaking walked and cycled inspections. Duties also include picking up manhole covers, trimming vegetation and shovelling debris away from gutters and gully tops.
You will be required to assess the risk of defects you identify and raise jobs for safety repairs via our contractor as necessary. You will work closely with the wider team and engineers to feedback observations on condition of the asset to enable effective planning of longer-term repairs.

Key Skills
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
- Sound problem solving skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and make logical and rational decisions based on all information available.
- The ability to stay calm when dealing difficult situations
- Good professional observational skills in order to locate faults in the highway and ability to keep accurate records in order to document findings.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full current driver’s licence
- Basic theoretical knowledge of engineering/civil construction for planning improvements and repairs to the highway
- Sound and accurate IT knowledge
- Knowledge of the Highways Act and NRSWA, and other relevant pieces of legislation, including health and safety, for enforcement work
- General technical and customer service experience
- Proven successful experience of working as part of a team to effectively meet objectives within agreed/necessary timescales.
