Centrica is a vertically integrated energy business and a leader in the Net Zero transition. It invests in, trades, and optimises energy assets and commodities including power generation, peaking power, power storage, gas storage, LNG, natural gas, hydrogen, among others.
The Group Investment programme sits within Group Strategy, which is part of the CEO office. The Group Investment Manager reports to the Director of Group Strategy.
The Director of Group Strategy oversees Centrica’s investment review process, including assessing investment proposals and making recommendations to Centrica’s leadership team. One of the core responsibilities of the Group Investment Manager is to support this process by centralising a robust set of fundamental assumptions (the “house view”) and ensure consistent application and understanding across Centrica’s various businesses. The Group Investment Manager will be the owner of the house view and understand how variances to the assumptions impact the overall Group financial plan and investment outlook.
The Group team is based in London (close to Marble Arch); the requirement for office/home working is flexible to suit the best candidate
The Role
Owns the crucial inputs to investment and trading decisions (the “house view”) spanning financial assumptions (WACC, interest rates, etc.), long-dated commodity curves (Brent, NBP, Baseload Power, Capacity, Battery, Peaker, Solar/Renewables and other ancillary curves as required)
Applies judgement to balance:
Communicates to senior stakeholders across Centrica
Collaborates to ensure a robust methodology and alignment of assumptions
Coordinates with finance teams to ensure consistent application of inputs into financial forecasts and business cases
Identifies and continuously improves methodology and processes
Relationship management of 3rd party curves and market data providers
Challenging 3rd party vendors on curve modelling and assumptions
Day-to-day management and development of two Curve Analysts/Senior Analysts
The Person
Experience in financial markets, with knowledge of commodities markets required
Exposure to battery storage (BESS), solar, wind/renewable curves would be beneficial
Long-term market forecasting experience, with demonstrated ability to apply well-reasoned judgement into forecasts
Previous experience working for one of the UK’s three main power curves forecasters (Afry, Aurora, Baringa), or in-house power fundamentals team preferable
Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence decisions
Proactive, with a strong motivation to change and improve existing processes
Experience managing and collaborating with high-performing teams
Strong evidence of ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
Strong problem-solving, quantitative, and analytical skills
Able to manage and motivate a team
Willingness to grow the role and expand remit
