JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Assistant (40 hours)
REPORTS TO: Pharmacist Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No direct line management responsibility
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy Teams
PRINCIPLE PURPOSE: To help our patients and customers stay healthy and feel better by giving excellent service & advice. To be a member of the pharmacy team working with colleagues in the spirit of the Day Lewis core values. To support the sale of over the counter medicines and the provision of information. To be involved in all aspects of the prescription journey from receipt to collection. To understand and promote the NHS & private services that are available from the pharmacy.
KEY ATTRIBUTES:
Patient and Pharmaceutical Care
· Seeks ways to improve professional practice to benefit patient care
· Uses appropriate questioning to obtain relevant information from a patient, referring where appropriate
· Takes appropriate action to resolve or refer any identified problems
· Ensures the provision of medicinal products is conducted in line with legislation and best practice
· Provides appropriate medicines information and patient education
Professional Practice
· Appropriately prioritises work, using their time efficiently
· Understands the importance of clinical and information governance as part of their everyday role
· Works effectively as part of the team
· Recognises and works within their own bounds of competence

Personal Practice
· Uses appropriate communication skills to build relationships with patients, colleagues and other colleagues
· Can access information from appropriate sources, ensuring up to date knowledge is maintained
· Uses logical methodology to investigate a medicines or practice issue to improve patient care
· Provides information in an accurate, relevant and timely manner
Service Delivery
· Implements legal and professional requirements for a safe system of work, including the use of relevant and up to date procedures for practice
· Ensure appropriate and accurate reimbursement for services provided
· Sources pharmaceuticals in a timely manner, resolving supply problems promptly
· Ensures stock is managed so that patients receive medicines in a timely manner
Education and Evaluation
· Promotes a learning culture within the organisation, supporting the development of others
· Demonstrates a commitment to self-development throughout own career by identifying personal strengths and areas for development
· Seeks and takes on board feedback from others to set personal development objectives
Qualifications for this Role
· NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills
