LGC ASSURE comprises of four LGC businesses, with the common vision of “Science for a Safer World”. Individually, each business is a leader in its field; together they offer a connected series of supply chain assurance solutions across critical touchpoints. LGC ASSURE serves manufacturing, laboratory, ingredients and supplements sectors.
LGC’s Animal Sports business provides medication and doping control services to the animal sports sector, where the major customers include the BHA, IHRB, FEI, and GBGB. Drug screening for these regulatory bodies is carried out to protect the integrity of the sports and the welfare of the animal competitors. Prescribed methodologies based on both GC and LC-MS/MS (including high resolution Orbitrap technology) are used in the laboratory but these are routinely undergoing review and refinement. The laboratory must respond to the latest threats identified by the regulators and so research, method development and validation underpin all drug screening activities.
As part of a team, you will provide a high quality analytical chemistry service to our animal sports customers. All work will be performed under the ISO17025 quality standard.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct analytical work (sample extraction and analyte detection) using appropriate techniques and in accord with the requirements of ISO17025
- Provision of results in a timely manner following documented procedures
- Interpretation of analytical data and presentation of results and conclusions
- Responsive and able to perform additional analyses and investigations as required
- Perform routine maintenance on a range of scientific equipment, including mass spectrometers
- The role requires previous practical experience with LC-MS and GC-MS and a knowledge of high resolution accurate mass is desirable
Person Specification:-
- Educated to degree or equivalent level in a biological or chemical science
- Excellent laboratory skills
- A confident presenter, who is comfortable to discuss and answer queries with a range of stakeholders
- Effective time management ensuring objectives and tasks are completed on time and to a high standard
- Sound scientific knowledge with experience of chromatography and related techniques
- Knowledge and experience of mass spectrometry and particularly GC-MS and LC-MS techniques
