Sciantec, part of the Cawood Scientific Group have over 30 years’ experience in the agri and aquaculture sectors, Sciantec offers a complete analytical service for feedingstuffs, ingredients, raw materials, compound feed, meals, premixes, and forages.
Sciantec are looking for an Operations Manager to join their team on a Full-Time, Permanent basis, based in Selby.
Role and Responsibilities:
· Be an active member of the site management team to promote continuous improvement in all key areas, especially around people, the customer, quality, Health and Safety and compliance.
· Maintains a safe, clean, and secure working environment by establishing and enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
· Ensure the QA regulations are met and work is carried out to a standard which will ensure continued accreditation to UKAS
· Drive Capacity and Process changes to optimise Laboratory efficiency and throughput to maintain a focus on the continual reduction of production costs.
· Working with the compliance team to ensure compliance with the Sciantec Management System and any procedures by initiating and monitoring all relevant data
· Support the General Manager by coaching, counselling, motivating, and managing performance as needed; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; directing and maintaining activities designed to achieve and maintain high employee morale; fostering intra- and inter-department cooperation.
· To ensure that all staff are trained and comply with appropriate methods.
· Conducting investigations and holding formal meetings as required in conjunction with the HR team
· Liaise and work with the General Manager and Section Managers to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Laboratory Operation to the satisfaction of the customers
· Liaising with Customer Services, Business Development and Technical Services where required. This would include communicating any operational issues in a timely fashion.
· Liaising with the Technical team to improve procedures and technologies on site by interpreting data generated and implement corrective action for any actual, or anticipated deviations from key objectives or timelines.
· Implement KPI’s to allow departmental performance to be monitored and issues flagged
· Support the General Manager in the process of managing the recruitment and engagement of the Chemistry team and the ongoing development of the individuals.
· Support in any reasonable duties as requested by General Manager.
· Support Technical Service/Quality in the investigation and completion of Customer complaints / queries.
· Maximise equipment utilization for greater sample throughput.
· Inspire teams through your own behaviour within a culture that encourages transparency and trust.
· Motivate & encourage your teams to realise their potential.
· When needs be, deputise for the General Manager
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
· Ideally have a minimum of 5 years managerial experience within an ISO17025 laboratory
· Chemistry Degree/Qualification – desired not essential
· Experience of working with ISO methods, participation in UKAS audits and writing/auditing methods.
· Have great laboratory skills and practices as well as food/feed chemistry and analytical techniques.
· Proven ability to develop team members
· Must be able to work effectively and collaborate within own team and other sections.
· Must take initiative and have the ability to conduct hands-on work.
· Strong communication and influencing skills
· Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
· Highly organised and excellent time management skills.
· Must be able to effectively articulate (verbally and in writing) to technical and non-technical personnel.
· Excellent Microsoft office skills.
