However, Path Links is passionate about recruiting and retaining the very best people. We therefore welcome applications from Consultant Clinical Biochemists with differing levels of experience. For those who share the same values as ourselves but who have only recently achieved FRCPath status, or are close to doing so, we offer the opportunity to join us, and through our support and your determination, quickly progress from 8C to band 8D level; assuming satisfactory development.

Path Links is a networked Pathology Service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples to two acute NHS Trusts, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trusts (NLAG) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULH), all General Practitioners throughout Greater Lincolnshire, and community based NHS healthcare providers.

Job Description is approved by the Royal College of Pathologists

AAC Date : 9th August 2023

Path Links is a standalone pathology service within the Chief Operating Officer’s Directorate of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

It includes all of the hospital laboratories at Boston, Grantham, Grimsby, Lincoln, and Scunthorpe, as well as hospital phlebotomy and reception centres in Goole and Louth.

Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Immunology, Andrology and Blood Transfusion are integrated into a Blood Sciences Directorate which has a single clinical lead and a single Directorate Operational Manager (DOM). Four of the main laboratory sites (Boston, Grimsby, Lincoln, and Scunthorpe) are managed by a local Site Manager, Grantham is covered by the Lincoln Site Manager. The Senior Managers and Clinical Directors work together to provide delivery and co-ordination of Pathology services across all sites and Directorates.

There are integrated Blood Sciences departments at the main hospital sites, notably: Boston, Grantham, Grimsby, Lincoln, and Scunthorpe and BMS staff working in these laboratories are cross-trained in biochemistry, haematology and blood transfusion.
All Path Links laboratories work to national UKAS accreditation quality standards (ISO 15189) and are fully accredited in all areas of operation.

We’re a large organisation with three hospitals located in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole. We also provide community services in North Lincolnshire. Our 6,500 members of staff care for and support a population of more than 400,000 people.

We encourage all our staff to innovate and adopt ‘best practice’ so we can deliver excellent care to our patients. We ask staff to live our values; kindness, courage and respect.

We are committed to recruiting the best people to work with us. You could be one of them.

They provide cross-cover for each other during periods of annual or study leave, including on-site visits to liaise with BMS staff and clinical users.

Most routine biochemistry and endocrine services are performed on all sites with centralisation of some specialist services on different sites within Path Links. Specialised and small volume tests are referred to regional laboratories outside Path Links. The annual workload for Path Links Chemical Pathology service is approximately 1.4 million requests and 15.1 million tests. The laboratory at Grimsby operates as a “capacity laboratory” and is the hub for the bulk of the county GP work.

The total Blood Science budget (2021) is £12.3 million.

We are committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.

Lincolnshire is centrally located with easy access to road, rail, sea and air making it an ideal base for living and working. Access to good childcare
and education is a crucial factor when deciding where to live and the schools in Lincolnshire are among the best in the country. Lincolnshire is one of the few counties in the UK to retain grammar schools and has a large number of schools with specialist status in a wide range of subject areas.
Each year thousands of people choose to come to Lincolnshire, primarily for the quality of life it has to offer. There is real mix of a thriving urban
city with an impressive cathedral, bustling historic market towns, idyllic villages, miles of unspoilt coastline and areas of natural beauty. One of the
biggest attractions, especially for those moving north, is the comparative affordability of houses. We can also offer the appointee an attractive
relocation allowance.
