The University of Sunderland’s brand new School of Medicine has welcomed its fourth cohort of students. This marks a very exciting time for our University, our NHS partners and the City/Region.

With a track record of excellence in health education spanning almost 100 years, the University has invested heavily in medical education and has a growing research team. As part of our contribution to the expansion of medical training and help to address the chronic shortage in some medical specialties including general practice in the North East, we also are uniquely placed to deliver Interprofessional learning (IPL) in undergraduate medicine and midwifery. We have a significant focus on widening access and will recruit students from the communities they will ultimately serve.

Our new programme allows Medical students to learn within our state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, including outstanding laboratory facilities, the latest in high fidelity clinical simulation equipment and some of the best hospital and GP settings in England.

As Research Associate HE, you will evaluate the medical student /midwifery student Interprofessional Learning programme and develop an evaluation protocol commensurate with the aims of the project.

The ideal applicant will be able to evaluate a unique IPL programme delivered within the school of nursing and midwifery. You will also be an experienced mixed method researcher.

If you're up for the challenge and want to know more, please contact Professor Scott Wilkes, Head of School of Medicine at scott.wilkes@sunderland.ac.uk for further details.

The University of Sunderland is ranked as a Top 50 university in the Guardian University Guide 2023. You can find out more about all of our achievements here.

The University of Sunderland is proud to be an equal opportunities employer, treating all applicants equally and ensuring recruitment is based on merit. However we particularly welcome applications from the following groups as they are underrepresented within the University of Sunderland at this level/in this area: Women, LGBT+ and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic applicants, as well as candidates with disabilities, whether hidden or otherwise. In addition, we are ‘happy to talk flexible working’. Please watch our video below to find out more:
