An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join the North Middlesex
Hospital, London. This is a 10 PA Substantive appointment full-time post. This post is designed to support the
Clinical Biochemistry laboratory services at the North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH). and the Royal Free
Hospital The post holder will be responsible for supporting the clinical biochemistry services at NMUH on 3 days (6
PAs) a week with 2 days (4 PAs) covering laboratory and clinical duties in Clinical Biochemistry at the Royal Free
Hospital. The post holder will also contribute to the out-of-hours consultatory Rota at NMUH, Royal Free Hospital
and the University College Hospital. The job plan will include laboratory, out-patient clinics and ward rounds as
appropriate. There is no general medical component to this post. There is expectation for involvement in education
supervision, training, undergraduate teaching and research. This is a new full-time post however 4 PAs come from
IT support at Royal Free London and Laboratory and research roles at Royal Free London.
In addition, Consultants are encouraged to take on Clinical Supervisor roles to support junior doctor
training across the hospital, if they have the requisite training and competencies and have been signed
off by the PGMDE to carry out this role.

agreed with the other Consultants.

Job plans are reviewed annually, and applicants are encouraged to study the provisions of the
Consultant Contract for England 2003 under which this post is offered.
North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system – consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

The successful candidate will join three existing consultants at Royal Free London, and University College Hospital and
participate in a 1: 4 out of hours on-call rota with prospective cover at a category B rating (3%). Applications are
welcomed from those approaching their CCT, as well as experienced consultants. We are open to discussing job share or
part-time arrangements and there isflexibility to meet the needs of individual applicants.
The appointee will take one of the Lead roles in the department as per local agreement, experience, and job Planning.
They will also take on a co-Lead role for one of the other areas to support their colleagues and provide cross cover when
necessary.
To qualify for this role, you will be a member of the Royal College or Pathologists (or equivalent). You will either hold or
be eligible forspecialist registration, holding a Certificate of completion of training (CCT or equivalent) or be within 6
months of award of CCT by the interview date.
This is a substantive 10 PA replacement post. The appointee will take the Lead roles in the department as per local
agreement, experience, and Job Planning. They will also take on a co-Lead role for one of the other areas to support
their colleagues and provide cross cover when necessary. The successful candidate will be part of a team of five
Consultants in North Central London as Biochemistry services and processes are harmonized across Royal Free
London NMUH and UCH .(4.0 WTE including this post) providing a Clinical Biochemistry laboratory service to the
Trust and local community. The post holder will be expected to support the 3 existing consultants in NCL in
providing a pro-active clinical Biochemistry service in line with the needs of the hospital.

- Laboratory lead for Clinical Biochemistry
- Laboratory Lead for SAS laboratory for cardiac Biomarkers
- IT liaison and Lead role
- Education Lead
