JOB DESCRIPTION HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT Job Purpose To support clinicians to deliver an efficient and safe service; To undertake a range of clinical support tasks accurately and efficiently; To interact with patients and colleagues in a positive and friendly way; Support and promote the good standing of the practice within the local and wider health communities. This job description is not intended to be exhaustive and may be varied after consultation to meet the needs of the practice. 5. Duties The main duties associated with this role are as follows: CLINICAL SUPPORT Undertake new patient health checks; Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes; Undertake medical observations including BMI and weight measurements, oximetry, BP, temperature and pulse, recording findings accurately; Facilitate routine and 24 hour BP monitoring; Perform wound care dressings; Support the practise nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics; Act as chaperone; Undertake venepuncture; Administer flu vaccinations; Obtain specimens, accurately complete appropriate laboratory forms and labelling, ready for transportation to laboratories; Non-clinical tasks Perform routine housekeeping duties, including general tidiness and cleanliness of treatment and GP rooms; Ensure clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared; Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice Infection Control Policy; Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely; Monitor fridge temperatures and keep accurate records; Ensure proper disposal of clinical waste and sharps bins; Answer telephone as required, record and pass on messages; Contribute to opportunistic health promotion where appropriate CONFIDENTIALITY Maintain confidentiality of information, acting within the terms of the practice policies, the Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidance on patient confidentiality at all times.
Be aware of the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act; HEALTH & SAFETY Manage own and others health & safety and infection control as defined in the Practices Health & Safety Policy and Practice Infection Control Policy and published procedures; Actively report health & safety hazards and infection hazards immediately; Keep work and general areas clean and tidy, respecting infection control procedures;.
