POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Clinical Laboratory Team in our new state-of-the-art Lab at BioCity near Glasgow.
The Laboratory Technician will undertake all aspects of clinical laboratory analytics and materials processing for research in response to customer requirements, including genotyping, qPCR, microarrays, next generation sequencing, stem cell research, tissue pathology, cellular services and informatics.
Candidates will be degree qualified in Biological Science, Biology, Microbiology or a similar field, with 5+ years relevant experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform complex diagnostic laboratory procedures, compile and analyse data
· Participate in ongoing monitoring of analytical test performance using QC metrics established during test validation, in discussion with the Laboratory Director
· Testing of new protocols, preparing biological samples, constructing genomic libraries and operating NGS technologies
· Isolate DNA and RNA, performing PCR, high-throughput screening assays and/or high-throughput sequencing on infectious agents and QC sequence runs
· Prepare reagents and specimens for analysis according to diagnostic laboratory procedures.
· Maintain, troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
· Follows quality control policies and procedures on all aspects of laboratory operations.
· Take personal responsibility to deliver client services to a consistently high standard

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Biology, Microbiology or similar field.
· Ideally 5+ years relevant experience of working in a clinical laboratory. Competent in Molecular Biology techniques including but not limited to Next Generation Sequencing (PCR and qPCR-based techniques, NGS library preparation, sequencer operation on Illumina® platforms/or equivalent)
· Familiarity with liquid handling robotics (i.e. Hamilton®) and software;
· Ability to use software supplied with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) instruments for managing runs and data analysis
· Proficient knowledge of samples collection and medical laboratory terminology
· Experience in Development, Testing, Validation, and Implementation of Laboratory tests
· Experienced in working with Quality Management System
· Excellent written communication skills with an attention to detail and record keeping
· Strong organisational skills including ability to plan and organise own workload to ensure all deadlines are met or exceeded in a fast-paced client-driven environment, which will involve multiple projects and competing priorities.
· Able to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively with good interpersonal skills to ensure projects are executed satisfactorily.
· Computer literate, experienced with entering data and using databases.
· Willing and able to learn new techniques, with an interest in continued professional development

Salary: £28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
