Job Purpose:
All IB staff are expected to support the IB in improving the quality of IB education in line with the IB
mission and values. The Production Designer is responsible for the design, creation and development
of content and the review and implementation of house style across all IB examinations,
markschemes and other assessment materials within the Exam Publishing team of the Assessment
Development and Delivery Department.
The role requires a high level of design, organisational and technical skills to deliver critical, high-
quality, error-free assessments on time and to a detailed session plan. Experts in using Office 365,
Adobe Creative Suite and associated creative software to visualise content. The role works
collaboratively with internal staff across the organisation.
The role also requires support to the Design Team Leader in research, review and implementation of
technical developments required for future proofing the production process. This will include the
development and management of project management and reporting tools across both paper and
digital processes and systems. Consequently, the Production Designer should have a thorough
knowledge and understanding of all of the IB educational programmes and the associated material
required in delivering the IBs assessments.
Job Duties
- Collaborates with authoring teams totalling up to 120 external stakeholders per exam session to deliver high-quality exam material on time and internally within a team of production designers, subject managers, production editors, production coordinators and copy editors.
- Responsibility at any one time for the design and build of up to 50 assessments and markschemes across 3 examination sessions, impacting more than 100,000 candidates.
- Shared responsibility for the design and build of over 1,500 total annual assessment projects in 75 different languages, amounting to approximately 30,000,000 printed pages and over 60 bespoke onscreen assessments per year (2 examination sessions)
- Creating and managing the visual content requirements across an extensive portfolio of projects.
- Accountability for accurately creating bespoke imagery, graphics, illustrations, diagrams and infographics.
Job Requirements
- A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject.
- Experience of working within a relevant professional publishing environment.
- The ability to communicate confidently and clearly within and across teams.
- An excellent command of the English language
- The ability to work with multiple stakeholders from different cultures.
- An exceptional eye for detail, such as a credential in proofreading.
- The ability and willingness to be decisive when making decisions affecting the delivery of assessment publication material.
- The ability to be analytical of self and the department and challenge the status quo for continual development and improvement towards the IB strategic objectives
- The capacity to work under pressure and respond to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Previous experience of using desktop publishing software.
- Experts of using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
- Experts in layout and typography
- Experience of project management methodologies.
