Job Description
This is a varied and exciting opportunity on FAI’s 1430-acre regenerative/organic farm. You will be a part of a friendly team working together to deliver high-quality care for our 100 Saler x Angus suckler herd. Heifers are retained as replacements and all other stock finished on farm. An additional 100 dairy/beef stores are purchased and finished on farm.
Alongside livestock duties, you will support with general farm maintenance, such as fencing and helping to maintain machinery and equipment. Working every other weekend to cover livestock duties.
You need to be self-motivated and conscientious with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Past agricultural experience is essential.
Tasks
Reporting to the Farm Manager, the successful applicant will;
- Inspect cattle and check their health & welfare.
- General stock duties, such as feeding, bedding, daily moves when at pasture
- Support the management of the herd including tasks such as calving, TB testing, vaccinations.
- Operate farm machinery relating to the husbandry of livestock, hay making, bale carting and other farm tasks.
- Carry out equipment, vehicle and farm maintenance.
- Execute record keeping where necessary on farm software packages, such as; Agriwebb, Breedr and Merit Ag Check (training can be provided).
- Participate in data collection and other activities associated with on-farm trials and project work.
- Work safely and follow all Health & Safety requirements.
- Be personable and a team player.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
- Carry out other duties as required.
Requirements
We’re keen to hear from a range of applicants with applicable experience. You should be able to demonstrate that you are able to meet some, or all, of the following requirements:
- High level of stockmanship, cattle experience is essential
- Experienced tractor/loadall/ATV driver with competence certificates. Full UK driving license essential.
- A ‘can-do’ attitude
- Reliable and punctual
- Good attention to detail
- An interest in regenerative agriculture
- Good communication skills, both oral and written. Good standard of English essential.
- Proactive, conscientious and able to use own initiative
- Sense of humour
