Job Description

The Pharmacy Department have an opportunity to recruit a Pharmacist Assistant for admissions wards in the Trust, you will become part of a unique team based within the Acute Medical Unit to collaborate with colleagues on delivering and developing pharmaceutical practice. The Admissions Team supplies medicines to A&E, Acute Medical Units, Same Day Emergency Care, for both inpatients and outpatients.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a forward thinking teaching hospital offering acute care to a population of approximately one million. We are one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in the UK with strong links to both the School of Pharmacy and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia. Electronic prescribing and medicines administration has been implemented across all inpatient wards, the A&E and outpatients. We are at the forefront of healthcare delivery with a strong focus on Medicines Management and innovative pharmaceutical practice.

Pharmacy assistants are vital members of the pharmacy team who work closely with the ward teams within Admissions areas. This post is to support our dedicated pharmacy admissions team, where we have a satellite pharmacy. The post-holder will help to maintain stock, help with moving patients’ own medication to wards, dispense for patients and support good medicines management. You will also spend some time within the main hospital dispensary.

If you have already gained your NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services and would like to provide a great service to the patients of the NNUH then we’d love to receive your application. Full training will be given in all areas to ensure you can provide the best service possible.

You will be self-motivated, able to work independently and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the Trusts PRIDE values. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and be willing to learn. You will be expected to use computer-based systems and therefore have appropriate computer skills.

The post-holder will ideally work full time, including weekends (maximum 1 in 4 weekends) and bank holidays. We would consider alternative flexible working patterns dependent on the applicant’s requirements.
