GSL Mental Health and SEN Education are looking for Psychology, Criminology, Humanities and Social Science Graduates for an outstanding SEN LSA role in an Alternative Provision for children who have been through substantial trauma and mental health challenges.
Firstly, this LSA role in Maidenhead will give you extensive experience in incredibly challenging contexts, working with children who are going to have a natural and deserved, mistrust of the adults in their life.
This experience will give you a good ground if you choose to pursue a career or industry similar to, Anti-Human Trafficking and Outreach work, through the experiences you will with SEMH and SEN children who have been through significant traumas, in their young lives.
Elements of this role which are the most important, can you demonstrate to the children and those around you, that you can keep them safe.
Can you demonstrate the value of education to extremely vulnerable students?
Any previous experience of working with charities like Hestia, Nacro and similar organisations will be of real help for you, not essential though. Some of the children will have been subject to sexual abuse or domestic slavery, which will often lead to the child missing substantial time in school.
Creating comfort with the child and over time, being able to show them your authentic self is crucial to achieving anything academically with them.
***Hours – 8:30 – 4:15, Monday to Friday, Term time only, Maidenhead, Berkshire location
***Focus on restorative processes and therapeutic combined with the mainstream Primary and Secondary curriculums, huge focus on Key and Personal skills
***Sport, Creative subjects, Cooking, Computing, Technology, all areas of focus to prepare the children for life post 16, when they leave the provision
***Working with some children who have English as an Additional Language
***Education and Training, including Safeguarding will be provided by the school – You will be learning elements of the role through context and planned sessions, every single day
***Outstanding facilities and set up within the school that enables the curriculum to cover
***'C'/4 and above grade in English and Maths required in this role, you need to be adept when it comes to the learning side
