Job Description

Due to the current post holder successfully getting on the doctorate on her first application. We are looking for a dynamic, compassionate, reflective, recovery focused Assistant Psychologist who will support Psychological service delivery to people in the inpatient wards at Wedgewood, Bury St Edmunds. This post will be for a fixed term of one year

To support inclusivity some questions for the interview will be available prior to the interview. Please make it known if you feel there are additional ways in which we can support you to demonstrate your best in the process.

Interviews will be over Microsoft teams to prevent travel burden, however if this does not suit you face to face can be arranged.

The successful candidate will support the work of the team providing psychological assessment, individual and group interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. There will be the opportunity to assist in audit, service evaluation and research projects within the ward environment.

Confidence in running therapeutic groups as well as an understanding of the psychological processes involved are an essential requirement for the potential post holder. Knowledge and experience of psychological models of therapy and recovery would also be essential to the successful applicant. We have a strong DBT informed philosophy on the wards so knowledge of this paradigm would be advantageous. Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed approaches would also be positive.

This post would be ideal for assistants who are considering applying to the doctorate course. There is a strong commitment by the Clinical Psychologist to help prepare successful applicants for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate.

The team consists of Nurses, Support Workers, Assistant Practitioners Occupational Therapists, Peer Support Workers, Psychology and Medics who work towards the shared goal of patient focused recovery. There are processes to review our work, to develop areas of good practice and support learning and development of staff.

The Therapy team have a strong ethos of supporting each other and continually developing our knowledge and practice.
