Caterfood Buying Group are responsible for creating strategy plans for all Caterfood Collection products along with all Exclusive Brands. This includes all marketing plans and product packaging artwork and design.
The Packaging Artworkers role is the design, creation and editing of all Caterfood Collection Own Brand & Exclusive Brand packaging artwork through our online Project Management System ‘BIDflow’.
Job purpose/business benefit of role
Caterfood Buying Group are responsible for creating strategy plans for all Caterfood Collection products along with all Exclusive Brands. This includes all marketing plans and product packaging artwork and design.
The Packaging Artworkers role is the design, creation and editing of all Caterfood Collection Own Brand & Exclusive Brand packaging artwork through our online Project Management System ‘BIDflow’.
Accountabilities – may include but not limited to.
1 Workflow Management System & Admin – Manage the own brand packaging creation process from start to finish within project management system ‘BIDflow’. Creating artwork quotes, requesting, and chasing suppliers for artwork cutter guides and raising artwork invoices. Cataloguing all own brand pack illustrations and photography.
2 Legal & Sustainable Compliance - Working with the Technologists to make sure all artwork has the correct product specification and legal compliance plus any sustainable credentials before creating print ready files for print.
3 Corporate Adherence – Adhering to all brand guidelines, responsible for creating packaging brand guidelines as required.
4 Artwork Creation - Following the same end-to-end process through ‘BIDflow’ to project completion, create new and amend existing packaging artwork within the set time.
5 Supplier Contact – Creating briefs for the creation of new illustrations through an agency/in-house. Communicate with printers making sure all files have the correct print specification.
6 Photography – Working design team to request photography needed for packaging artwork and catalogue existing packaging photography.
7 New Brand & Packaging Design – Create new packaging design and templates for future new products and brands.
8 Studio Support - Support the Studio team with adhoc artwork for marketing materials and presentations.
9 Industry Insight - Stay abreast of packaging developments and changes within the packaging marketplace to recommend and inform key stakeholders to ensure Bidfood consider these changes.
10 Health and safety accountabilities:
· Comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
· Support the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation process.
· Comply with all verbal and written instructions in matters pertaining to Health & Safety.
Attend Health & Safety training courses as per instructions from line managers.
Measures & Key Performance Indicators
Workflow Management System & Admin - Packaging artworks are created accurately without error and timelines are achieved on BIDflow. Quotes & Invoices raised for each project. All own brand pack illustrations & photography added to digital photography and asset library.
Legal & Sustainable Compliance – All artwork is created to the correct specification and are legally compliant. Any sustainable credentials are also adhered to on all artwork and packaging.
Corporate Adherence – Create design & artwork on pre-set brand guides. Any changes to brand adherence must be signed off by the Head of Brand and Design.
Artwork Creation – Create/amend artwork using the end to end process on ‘BIDflow’. Artwork is to be created/amended with 100% accuracy and within the deadline stated on ‘BIDflow’.
Supplier Contact – Creating a brief for own brand packaging illustrations to either be send to an agency or to the in-house design team. Liaise with printers to obtain correct print specifications for each project.
Photography – Determine if a project requires pack photography then liaise design team create a brief that can be sent to a Bidfood approved photographer to be created within the deadline of the project.
New Brand & Packaging Design – The full creation of new brand packaging guidelines. Create packaging templates to use for all artwork within that brand.
Studio Support – Complete allocated jobs as requested on time and on brief.
Industry Insight – Demonstrate consideration of insight in the packaging marketplace related to new legal compliances and other packaging information.
Health and safety accountabilities – Show consideration of potential risks in department workspace.
Challenges/Decision making
Key challenges are as follows:
1) Workflow Management System & Admin - All artwork to be completed with 100% accuracy and professionally on the 1st proof. Validating quotes and invoices to suppliers. Accurately tracking all own brand illustrations and photography.
2)Legal & Sustainable Compliance – All legal information must be 100% correct on all artwork on 1st proof. Sustainable credentials must be adhered to when applicable.
3)Corporate Adherence – Check to make sure all artwork created is in line with brand guidelines. Seeking the approval of the Head of Design and Brand on any artwork that doesn’t adhere to brand guidelines.
4)Artwork Creation – Create/amend artwork based on the brief supplied with 100% accuracy. Seeking clarification from Design Team if brief is unclear.
5) Supplier Contact – Creating illustration briefs that are 100% correct before sending to agency or in-house studio team. All artwork sent to printers is created to their specification.
6) Photography – Identifying the need for photography and working with the Head of Design and Brand to create a brief and have the image shot within the timeline set.
7)New Brand & Packaging Design – Creating new brand artwork. Considering all the different product specifications and legal information. Creating ready to use templates.
8) Studio Support – Ensure adherence to brief and raise quires to Studio & Production Manager.
9) Industry Insight – Developing a knowledge bank of specific packaging knowledge that aids the development of packaging artwork and design.
10) Health and safety accountabilities – Keeping up to speed with changing business policies and penalty criteria for accidents in the workplace.
Jobholder requirements
Requirements for qualifications, specialist knowledge, skills or key behaviours the jobholder will need to demonstrate to do the job effectively.
1) 2 years+ experience in packaging design with demonstrable experience managing the end to end artwork process.
2) Knowledge of legal compliance needed within food packaging.
3) Understanding of packaging print process.
4) Experience working within the food industry.
5) Full knowledge of Macintosh OS, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator & InDesign essential) and Microsoft Office.
6) Ability to do standard artworking using InDesign and Illustrator.
7) Excellent attention to detail.
