Job Description
Clinical Responsibilities Provision of technical services to designated houses and departments, ensuring continuous supply of medicinal products for the Children and Young People (CYP) within the Trust. Accurate use of the Pharmacy IT System to supply data on drug expenditure and trends within the Trust. Participate in service developments to improve patient care and or increase efficiency Provision of a quality service and maintenance of high standards of skills without direct supervision. To supervise and train Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians / Pharmacy Assistants / Pharmacists as appropriate.
To train and engage house staff to maintain medicines management standards across site.Medication Supply Dispense medicines for CYP in accordance with departmental SOPs and maintain high level of accuracy at all times. Maintenance of drug stocks and supplies by checking drugs received and delivery notes, participating in a programme of regular expiry date checking and stock takes. Comply with storage requirements of drugs to ensure their efficacy. Complete house stock top up, ordering supplies of drugs in accordance with an agreed stock list.
Undertake the checking of stock on houses / departments for correct quantities, storage and expiry dates. Complete individual named patient medication (IDRS) top ups as per SOPs. Answer routine and medication queries; referring to the Lead Pharmacy Technician / Senior Pharmacists as appropriate. Undertake the dispensing of unlicensed drugs and maintenance of the appropriate records.
Ensure disposal of pharmaceutical waste in all areas is carried out according to SOPs. Patient Care Medicine management on the houses by ensuring that each childs section of the POD cupboard contains the correct medication and quantity in accordance with the prescription chart and individual named patient order and dispensing record sheet. Notify the Pharmacist of any changes on prescription charts to enable clinical check of medication. Promote the safe use of medicines across site.
Governance Conducting and reporting on medicines audits. Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician to write and develop standard operating. procedures in regard to the Pharmacy, staff training and medicines management. Support the Principal Pharmacist to deliver medication safety initiatives across the Trust.
Finance Ensure the security of drug stocks within the department and on the houses. Ensure that all stock is booked out accurately. Procure medicines from suppliers as per SOPs. Check all goods received against delivery notes, resolving any issues that occur.
Communication Answer the telephone and respond to routine queries in a professional manner. Communicate effectively and sensitively with children, families, carers and staff who present at the pharmacy reception, in a professional and polite manner. Maintain effective working relationships within and external to the Trust. Maintain effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
IT Accurately use the Pharmacy dispensing system RxWeb. Accurately update and print ward stock lists as required. Maintain accurate individual named patient dispensing records. General Be flexible in working practices in line with service demands.
Carry out other duties when requested by the Principal Pharmacist, Lead Pharmacy Technician, Senior Pharmacists. Carry out all work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. To understand and comply with all Trust policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Professionalism To maintain registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC and to act in accordance with the Code of Ethics.
To participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Including further training and learning. This includes the accredited Technician Checking programme and Medicines Management Accreditation. Ensure continuous update of own professional knowledge and work-based practise through the CPD process. To participate in mandatory training and annual performance development review.

Health and Safety Maintain appropriate standards of safety to comply with the Medicines Policy and to ensure that the principles of safe and secure handling of medicines are adopted.
Adheres to all health and safety guidelines, including infection prevention and control. Provide evidence of a valid NHS Covid Pass or acceptable proof of Covid vaccination or medical exemption and all vaccinations (or medical exemption) required for the post. Adhere to manual handling procedures and complete mandatory manual handling training. Promotes the health and safety of others.
