Senior Biomedical Scientist POCT Lead| Full Time | Permanent | Pathology | Leeds – LS8
Spire Leeds Hospital are now recruiting a highly motivated, flexible and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist POCT Lead to join our dynamic pathology hub.
You are to assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals.
To liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Take a lead role in ensuring the hospital Point of Care Services (POCT) are safe and liaise with the National Pathology Specialist – Point of Care Testing.
Spire Leeds Hospital, located in Roundhay, Leeds, has been treating patients for almost 30 years. We are the region’s largest private hospital in terms of the range of services we offer and the number of consultants we work with. The hospital offers a range of services and facilities including four operating theatres, a sterile services department, a dedicated endoscopy suite, and a diagnostic and imaging department with an MRI and CT scanner. There are outpatient and physiotherapy departments providing services six days per week
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop practice including investigation and reporting, within your areas of specialist expertise.
- Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
- Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
- Assist with research and development.
- Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise..
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
- Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
- Promotes best practice in health and safety and security.
- Assist in maintaining and developing services.
- Deliver quality improvement with the department senior team.
- Support and enable equality, diversity and rights.
- Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
- Ensure distribution of External Quality Control (EQA) and Internal Quality Control (IQC) for POCT services to the correct departments in all supported hospitals
- Ensure uplift of EQA results for POCT to web portals and report results into the local POCT committee and give assistance to resolve any issues
- Attend local POCT committees and contribute to discussions on equipment, maintenance, EQA and IQC
Who we're looking for
- Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
- Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council.
- Working within a performance driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
- Meeting financial and budgetary targets.
- Supporting the commercial development of pathology services locally
- Experience in a scientific laboratory.
- Experience of independent sector
- Possess the mandatory training requirements for role including infection control and health and safety competencies.
