Job Statement
To be responsible for managing all of the functions of the pharmacy procurement section of the pharmacy service. Contributes to the development of efficient, safe and cost-effective procurement of medicines under the direction of the Pharmacy Procurement and Systems Manager. Responsibilities include staff management, stock control, training, maintenance and implementation of procedures/standards, compilation and distribution of usage and financial data, and contribution to the monitoring and management of the purchasing procedures.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Pharmacy Procurement
Manage the day to day work, service delivery and staff in the medicines procurement section ensuring adequate and timely procurement and storage of medicines, medical gases and other pharmacy supplies, including unlicensed drugs and clinical trial drugs, optimising order creation and stock turnover using both paper and electronic systems.
Ensure that all medicines procurement takes place from approved suppliers and that all relevant activities are in accordance with medicines legislation.
Manage the return of goods to suppliers.
Sign drug procurement orders within agreed financial and clinical parameters.
Be responsible for co-ordinating and contributing to the training of staff in procurement and stock management.
Assist in resolving computer problems in relation to purchase and stock management.
Prepare, maintain and monitor relevant procedures for the purchasing system, pharmacy store, and other functions and ensuring that these are conducive to wider departmental procedures and vice versa.
Ensure that competency structures are adopted to confirm that the store purchasing team are aware and capable of undertaking the duties expected of them.
Respond to requests for supplier, product and price queries and provide timely information regarding sourcing of products.
Respond in a prompt manner to emergency requests.
