About us
The Medical Research Council Centre for Macaques is a primate breeding unit established in 2003 to house and breed rhesus macaques. It is funded by the MRC with support from the Wellcome Trust, and Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
About the roles:
We are recruiting an Animal Technician on a full-time basis to look after the health and welfare of a breeding colony of rhesus macaques. This work includes daily husbandry duties such as cleaning and feeding, as well as maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities include:
· Checking the health and welfare of the animals
· Addressing welfare needs, including habituation and training of animals
· Maintaining cleanliness in the animal rooms
About you:
You will have:
- GCSEs at grade C or above
· Experience of working and adhering to instructions/protocols/processes
· Genuine interest in the welfare of animals
We are also recruiting a part-time Cleaner/Maintenance Technician to join our team and maintain the unit to the required standards of cleanliness and to process, prepare and deliver equipment and consumables for the macaque housing facility on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Maintain biosecurity/cleanliness/hygiene in a busy breeding facility to the prescribed standards
- Maintain unit replenishment to satisfactory levels, including PPE and other consumables
- Maintain cleanliness/hygiene in staff areas, to include changing/shower rooms, kitchen, offices and entrance foyer
About you:
You will have:
- Basic literacy and numeracy
- Experience of working to instructions
- Previous work in a general cleaning role
- Experience of the management of consumables and stock rotation
Both roles are based at Porton Down, Salisbury and you will work closely with other members of the team.
