Bishop Burton Farm is a fully commercial farm and part of Bishop Burton College, consisting of arable, cattle, sheep and a pig enterprise to enhance the experience of our students.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
To be responsible for feeding, bedding, medicating, loading/unloading of pigs on the Bishop Burton Pig Unit. To include all duties necessary to ensure the highest welfare of stock and contributing towards the achievement of ambitious key performance indicators, as well as helping to deliver the best possible learning opportunities for students.

The list does not represent either priorities or frequency of tasks and should be regularly updated by the post holder in consultation with and agreement of their line manager.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pig management duties on the college's 300 sow farrowing unit, to contribute to achieving the output plan for the unit in line with annually reviewed targets.
- To record all relevant data necessary to provide performance information to our customer, the Farm Office and Pig Unit Manager.
- To observe and coach students and others working on the site to safe working practices under the Risk Assessments relating to the unit.
- To assist in the moving, grading and handling of pigs, load/unload lorries safely, Al, farrowing, cleaning buildings and equipment.
- At all times to observe standards when working with pigs which ensure the highest welfare standards are maintained, such as administering medication and euthanasia as directed by the Pig Unit Manager or
- Maintain personal biosecurity and insist in the same from all students and visitors to the site to pig industry best practice standards.
- Assist on all the other farm enterprises and student
- Take part in all staff College events.
