Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Genetic Technologist to join the Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy diagnostic service (SIHMDS) within North West London Pathology at Hammersmith Hospital.
The laboratory is one of the partner organisations within the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub (NTGLH). Applicants must have a biological science degree, with practical laboratory experience in Cytogenetics.
Applicants should be working towards HCPC registration. The successful applicant will be required to perform laboratory assays, with experience of cell culture, harvesting, G-banding, FISH set-up and FISH analysis being essential.
The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator with good time management skills and a team player. Experience and understanding of UKAS accreditation is essential for this post as the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to quality management activities, including compliance with laboratory accreditation standards, service improvement.
The role demands a high level of organization in order to successfully manage the operational delivery of the technical workload. This post will involve direct line management, supervision and training of staff and management of necessary resources for the day to day functioning of the technical department.
- To work with biomedical scientists, associate practitioners, medical lab assistants and clinical scientists in the provision of a comprehensive and effective SIHMDS service for the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as directed by the Head of the Department.
- To participate in the efficient handling, processing and analysis of samples in the laboratory, under supervision.
- To maintain effective records of all activities and procedures, and to contribute towards the maintenance of the laboratory's quality system.
- To check, keep clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- To carry out supervised laboratory procedures in all sections of the laboratory, as directed by the Head of the Unit and senior scientific staff.
- To undergo appropriate teaching and training as directed and as necessary in order to maintain HCPC registration and to maintain suitable records of all training activities undertaken.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
