Mergers and Acquisitions Analyst
Centrica’s Group Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Team leads the origination and execution of Centrica’s M&A activity, ranging from strategic transactions, like the sale of Direct Energy, to bolt-on transactions, like the acquisition of People’s Energy. This is an exciting time to join as we shape the business to successfully navigate the energy transition and position our business for growth, and Centrica has an increasingly active M&A agenda. This role will offer the successful candidate a unique insight into Centrica’s journey to helping customers reach net zero.
The Group M&A Team maintains regular dialogue with a broad range of market participants to gather intelligence and identify potential business development opportunities. It is a highly regarded team within Centrica and is often a sounding board for Executive Management and Business Units (BUs) evaluating strategic options. There are twelve people in the team (one based in Houston), including two final placement graduates.
Role:
- Highly visible, fast-track development opportunity for a graduate with an exceptional performance record.
- Undertaking strategic projects, both with Group Strategy and with the BUs to develop the Group wide competitor and market landscape understanding.
- Interaction with senior team members across various BU’s to execute transactions and discuss strategic alternatives.
- Originating and managing partnership opportunities to accelerate growth.
- Assisting on origination research and analysing inbound Information Memorandums.
- Ad hoc preparation of slide presentations on the industry and competitive landscape.
- Support M&A activity in Centrica, contributing to the planning and framing of strategic issues and potential ventures.
- Research a broad opportunity space for origination and execution, and create written materials that clearly and concisely articulate the SWOT analysis of each potential target.
Learning opportunity:
- Experience of Centrica’s disciplined and analytical approach to M&A and learning about all stages of an M&A deal.
- Knowledge and understanding of both the Group and BU strategic priorities and commercial drivers.
- Development and application of project management, analytical and financial skills.
- Involvement in diverse range of businesses internationally.
- Exposure to senior management across the Group.
- Exposure to and involvement in the strategy setting process in Centrica.
Experience
- Strong intellectual capability and analytical skills.

- Confident personality to deal with wide variety of issues and relationships.
- Articulate with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Committed individual with drive and ability to deliver output at pace whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
