Post Title: Salaried General Practitioner Location: Lingwell Croft Surgery Grade: Salaried GP Sessional rate: £9875 -£10,570 depending on experience Accountable to: GP Partners and Managing Partner Report to: Managing Partner Job Summary: The post holder will be a qualified general practitioner who can demonstrate highly developed clinical skills and be able to demonstrate critical thinking whilst working within their professional boundaries. They will work within a clinical team consisting of GPs, Practice Pharmacist, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants to deliver excellent primary care services within the practice. They will be able to manage a busy and varied clinical caseload with for patients requiring routine, acute, home visits and palliative care. There will also be the opportunity to take on a lead clinical area of specialist interest.
Clinical Responsibilities: In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, insurance reports, medicals and correspondence in a timely fashion. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health Providing counselling and health education Referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible) Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Other Responsibilities within the Organisation: Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate Liaise with other health care professionals both in the practice and outside agencies Leadership To have an understanding of and work towards achieving the Quality and Outcomes Framework and work with the team to deliver this. Contribute to peer review with the clinical team Provide evidence of ongoing personal development through appraisal and revalidation.
Attend and contribute to practice meetings and external collaborative meetings Maintain own professional development and registration in line with the General Medical Council regulations Actively promote the workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice Critically evaluate and review innovations and developments that are relevant to the area of work Contribute to the development of local guidelines, protocols and standards To play an active role in the development of the practice and new services including research. Contribute to a culture of ongoing review, taking into account new methods of working
