What success looks like in this role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Support Engineer to join our Managed Applications Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day support and development to our Command and Control services, with a specific focus on the mainframe element of the solution. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of mission-critical applications in a 24x7 environment and contribute to software enhancements as defined by our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Expert Support: Offer comprehensive support to end users, promptly identifying and resolving issues related to interfaces between various system components. Demonstrate ingenuity and creativity in developing enhancements and new areas of functionality to optimize the performance of the applications.
- Mainframe Expertise: Utilize your strong mainframe skills, particularly in COBOL development and tools, to effectively troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance the existing applications. Familiarity with OS2200 Unisys mainframe technology is highly desirable, and experience with other mainframe technologies will also be considered.
- Database Management: Work with hierarchical (DMS) and relational (RDMS) databases, ensuring data integrity and efficient data processing.
- Transaction Processing: Demonstrate an understanding of Transaction Processing (TIP/HVTIP) or similar technologies to support the seamless execution of application transactions.
- Service Delivery: Apply your technical expertise within a service delivery environment, balancing technical solutions with operational effectiveness to meet client needs and maintain the stability of supported systems. A good understanding of ITIL framework is advantageous.
- Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as you will regularly engage with clients. Prior experience working with Public Sector organizations will be a valuable asset.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota to ensure 24x7 availability for application support.

Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience in Application Support, with a strong focus on mainframe technologies, especially COBOL development and tools.
- Knowledge and experience in OS2200 Unisys mainframe technology is a plus, while experience with other mainframe technologies will be considered.
- Database experience, including hierarchical (DMS) and relational (RDMS) databases.
- Familiarity with Transaction Processing (TIP/HVTIP) or similar technologies.
- Ability to apply technical expertise effectively in a service delivery environment while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Understanding of ITIL framework is desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
- Previous experience working with Public Sector organizations is a welcome advantage.
PLEASE NOTE: Eligibility for and obtaining CTC clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.
