Job summary

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent, and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence.

As part of a diverse and inclusive workforce, our team will find a community to belong to – whether that’s alongside project teams with a shared vision or as part of an employee network of like-minded individuals. We believe that, by celebrating different backgrounds and different perspectives, together we’ll achieve the extraordinary.

Job description

Are you passionate about Project Management? Are you seeking a challenging and rewarding career working on once-in-a-lifetime projects? If so, this could be the perfect position for you! We at the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Dreadnought Supply & Support Team (DSST) in Barrow-in-Furness.

The DSST is responsible for delivering Government Furnished Assets (GFA), including equipment, information, and resources, into the Dreadnought Design and Build Programme, and for managing the transition of Dreadnought into the Royal Navy. This includes establishing the through life support solution, ensuring training provision for Dreadnought’s maintainers and crew and establishing both the physical and information infrastructure to support Dreadnought in-service.

Growing your career as part of the SDA, we will provide you with a diverse range of opportunities that ensure the delivery of crucial and significant projects, whilst using recognised project management principles, tools, and techniques.

As a Project Manager within the DSST, you will work hand-in-hand with the GFA Asset Management Team to successfully receive and handover GFA to BAE Systems, in line with the build programme. You will engage with a range of stakeholders across the Dreadnought Alliance (SDA, BAE Systems and Rolls Royce) at various levels of seniority in order report progress and address emergent issues.

This exciting opportunity will see you prioritising a fluctuating workload and analysing data to make informed decisions and recommendations that enable and support delivery of the UK’s Submarine Programme. You will be supported by your manager and wider team to achieve your career goals and aspirations with mentoring available to fulfil your potential and funding for industry-recognised qualifications.

Occasional travel to our Abbey Wood site and overseas (USA) may be required, for which your expenses will be paid for. Initially you will be expected to the attend more frequently to familiarise yourself with the specific site, the team, and the projects you will be working on in more detail.

Due to the secure nature of the position, this post is reserved for sole UK nationals only.
