Job Purpose
Develop the manufacturing processes, utilising lean manufacturing techniques to optimise product quality, process efficiency, productivity and capability. Key to achieving this will be the need to constantly challenge the status quo and introduce best practice.
Principle Accountabilities:
- To monitor and develop manufacturing processes across site
- Working with Operations and Quality departments to deliver optimisation of quality, productivity and process capability, using lean manufacturing tools across site.
- To introduce and optimise new product into the plant.
o Practical design and monitoring of initial batches
- Production / coordination of documentation
- Identification of areas for improvement and generation of well detailed, timely improvement plans.
- Management and coordination of projects to implement improvement plans.
- Monitoring of production process problems with regards to the process, product and equipment
- Development of SOPs and quality procedures as well as other process documentation such as control plans and PMFEAs
- Education of employees through the use of coaching and training to ensure the successful implementation of a culture of waste identification and elimination through the deployment of lean tools and principles.
- Establishing specifications and acceptance criteria for machines & equipment.
- Providing regular business updates on project activities including adherence to milestones and business benefits achieved to date.
- Undertake other tasks within capabilities, in any department across the business.
Person Specification:
Essential
- Previous demonstrable Manufacturing Engineering experience, preferably working within a business that produces precision engineered products, in a highly regulated industry such as Aerospace, Automotive or Medical.
- A proven track record of driving out waste and cost through process improvement within a business.
- Experience of utilising lean manufacturing techniques and tools – e.g. PPAP, PFMEAs, SPC and problem solving tools such as RCCA, 8-D, etc.
- Development and implementation of capital projects to support cost reduction initiatives
- Equipment specification and selection
Preferred
- Hot and/or cold metal working / Heat Treatment / Furnace experience
- Basic metallurgy. Preferably in Nickel, Stainless steel, & Titanium alloys
- Machining experience
- Metrology experience / programming measurement tools such as CMMs
- Programming process machinery / PLC programming
Qualifications – Essential
- Minimum of HNC in Engineering Discipline followed by at least 5years practical experience
Preferred
- Process Improvement Qualification (Six Sigma Green Belt)
- Project Management

- Excellent problem-solving analytical skills with an ability to compile a reasoned justification
