Job Description

The Catering and Events Department of the Campus Services Division at Imperial College London operates various cafés, restaurants, bars and events located within the South Kensington, Charing Cross, Hammersmith, North Acton and White City Campuses. The department aims to provide affordable and high-quality food and services for the Imperial College community.

We are looking for a talented individual to ensure excellent day-to-day operational practice and provide effective line management in our brand-new bar and restaurant at White City Campus.

In this role you would be responsible for the smooth running of Catering and Bar Operations and efficient management of staff.

Your role will be to conduct and supervise the service of food and beverages within the College’s catering units in accordance with pre-agreed budgets and ensure compliance with College/Department policies and health and hygiene legislation. You will be an effective communicator, able to monitor and support staff, assist with training, and promote customer friendly service and teamwork.

As a successful supervisor, you will be able to demonstrate your experience of working within a fast-paced catering environment and effectively supervising staff.

Duties and responsibilities



  • Coordinating all relevant staff and team members to deliver a professional and efficient service

  • Manage, support, coach, motivate and develop staff

  • Ensuring stock control is conducted in accordance with the Campus Services Financial guidelines

  • Ordering and receiving goods in order to maintain an adequate service within food budget targets

  • Leading on the security, general repair and cleanliness of the venues for which you will be responsible

  • Being responsible for receiving and recording customer feedback as well as promoting a customer-friendly service

  • Assisting with identifying areas of customer service where improvements can be made, and working to implement solutions

Essential requirements



  • Previous experience of effectively supervising a team, with proven ability to motivate and lead team members

  • Previous experience of managing catering operations in a venue or event setting

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to present and deliver information in an appropriate manner to staff at all levels at the College

  • A good understanding of the importance of health and safety at work and associated regulations/legislative requirements

  • A good understanding of the use of different equipment/machinery within the work area and the ability to operate such equipment/machinery safely and effectively

  • A good understanding of regularly used food ingredients

  • Good numerical skills, sufficient to be able to deal with cash transactions effectively and accurately

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, in order to deliver an efficient and effective service

  • Tact and diplomacy to deal with people in all circumstances in professional manner

Contract Details:

Salary: £34,273-£37,180

Operational Services, Grade 2b

Location: White City and Hammersmith Campuses

Full Time, Permanent, Full-Time Position

The standard working week consists of 35 hours, 5 days out of 7, including evenings and weekends
