The Role

Working within a fast-paced and entrepreneurial retail environment, this varied role is responsible for reporting, budgeting and forecasting for variable store and e-commerce costs. The role requires the development of collaborative working relationships across the retail and e-commerce teams, including with senior management.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting

  • Responsibility for period end journals relating to variable store and e-commerce costs (as well as reconciling any related balance sheet accounts), ensuring any variances to budget are fully understood through discussion with relevant business partners
  • Presenting variances to budget/forecast at flash review meetings
  • Assisting with the production of management accounts board pack, including providing meaningful commentary on the P&L
  • Assisting with the production of the weekly trade pack and other monthly, quarterly and annual stakeholder reports
  • Responsibility for meeting internally set reporting deadlines
  • Continually seeking ways to improve financial processes and how we use our systems

Planning

  • Ownership of the annual budget for variable store and e-commerce costs: liaising with relevant business partners, reviewing business partner assumptions (and challenging these where appropriate), updating budget models, analysing trends and assisting with the preparation of the budget pack sent to senior management
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of rolling forecasts for variable store and e-commerce costs

Business Partnering/Business Support

  • Act as finance business partner to retail and e-commerce teams, working closely with key stakeholders to ensure that spending is proactively managed against budget and providing them with all necessary support to understand performance
  • Working with the retail team on sales targets and store incentives
  • Ad-hoc analysis and reporting for the business as required

Insight and Analysis

  • Assisting the Commercial Finance Manager with analysis of trends and key business drivers, store/web profitability analysis, assessment of future business opportunities and other ad-hoc analysis as required
  • Working with the business focusing on efficiencies and cost control including store payroll, web marketing and web fulfilment

ESSENTIAL

  • ACCA/CIMA – part qualified
  • Experience in a similar role - Management Accounting/Commercial Finance/FP&A
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel skills to create high quality analysis
  • Good time-management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Solid communication skills and ability to deal with non-finance personnel
  • Self-starter with willingness to assume responsibility whilst working well within a team
  • Ability to challenge and improve processes and procedures
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities and demands
