DISTRIBUTION MANAGER

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced distribution manager to take full responsibility for our transport department across the Berkmann Wine Cellars network.
Our business is financially strong and has a growing order book and this role will focus on full management of our driving fleet (40+ vehicles, mainly 3.5t, with some 7.5t) The remit is broad and will involve leadership of all day to day operations.
We are looking for an organised individual with the ability to manage the driving teams to ensure we maximise our van fill and delivery routes whilst meeting customer delivery dates. Urgent deliveries and issues will arise, and it is essential that you can approach these with a customer focused, proactive, attitude.
Effective communication skills are vital as the role will involve developing positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels. We are looking for a manager who can lead by example and help deliver the best possible customer service.
Ultimate responsibility on targeted KPI’s for:
· Delivering to customers on time and in fullwhilst ensuring cost efficiencies within our distribution network
· Manage all primary distribution requirements to include internal haulage, third party cross docking and associated tender process, performance measurements and contracts
· Manage our Transport Planning department, driving efficiency and cost effectiveness through optimised route planning, achieving in excess of 80% load fill capacity
· Manage Senior Drivers in each depot and cross dock locations who are responsible for resource planning, daily co-ordination and to act as ‘traffic control’ between drivers and customer services
· Oversee control of all goods outbound from depots and cross dock facilities in addition to returned goods inbound
· Act as key point of contact with Berkmann 3PL warehousing providers and cross dock facilities
· Review and refine all distribution and operational processes to improve performance, drive efficiency and add value
· Work with Head of Supply Chain and Operations, plus the Finance team to ensure we deliver on our strategic vision within budgeted costs
· Work with Head of Supply Chain & Operations and IT department to scope and identify new technology and software that will enhance our delivery and customer service, leading any new software design and implementation
· Manage the vehicle fleet purchasing arrangements, seeking cost savings at every opportunity
Knowledge & Experience
· You must be highly computer literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel, with the ability to effectively pick up new systems and maximise the use of them
· Hold in-depth knowledge of logistics processes and significant experience of managing a busy multi-drop transport operation, preferably in a drinks wholesale / on-trade industry
· Demonstrate ability to influence and implement change within an operational environment
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to make key decisions to support the smooth day to day running of our transport division
· 1st hand user experience of Transport Planning Software – ideally, to include implementation, reporting etc
· Ability to analyse, manipulate and report on broad sets of data to support decision making
